ALTRE NOTIZIE: Elvis eseguì ripetutamentesolo il verso “Amen” alla fine di “I got a woman”, in quasi tutti gli spettacoli dal 1972 in poi. Curiosamente la RCA non accreditò questa canzone nella sua prima presenza all’interno dell’album “Elvis recorded live on stage in Memphis”.
STORIA DELLA CANZONE: è difficile stabilire quale sia stata la prima pubblicazione discografica di questo Gospel tradizionale. Alcuni esperti sostengono sia datata 1942 (Decca 18346), dal film “What’s cookin’?”, eseguita come parodia da Woody Sherman. Il pezzo si intitola “Hey man !”. Onestamente il filo che lega questo pezzo ad “Amen” è molto labile; molto più probabilmente la prima registrazione della canzone dovrebbe essere stata quella datata 1950 da parte del Reverendo J.B. Crocker, intitolata “Sermon, hallelujah, amen” (King 4372).
